Crossing is perhaps a subset of mundane landscapes. The abstraction has the same roots and the same fascination, but crossings are so many and so widely varied. An enormous volume could be produced from a single street in the world. The word "crossing" is very potent, with its suggestions of border crossings and migrations, such fraught topics these days. Borders have been drawn so arbitrarily in the world and defended so vigorously against those with the bad luck to have been born on the wrong side of a border. Why should one have to pay with one's life for this random chance? Why can't we share our good and bad luck and make all parts of the world as desirable as they can be?
